Apparently hernias aren't just from heavy lifting. Sunday night Tony was changing Milo and noticed some swelling in Milo's groin area. He called me up to look at it and there was also a bit of a mass. I tried not to panic, but it is hard to see your 7 week old like that. You can't help but think the worst. I immediately called our pediatrician to get the call service. They paged the on-call Dr and about 30 minutes later the doctor called us back. She told me to push it back in. This seemed weird (and gross). After messaging the area, the swelling was gone. She told me it is an inguinal hernia and that it would require surgery. It turns out these occur in 20% of babies, mostly in boys. The surgery will be outpatient and will only take about an hour. I can't believe my little boy has to have surgery. I know I will be a hot mess next week. Just thinking about him laying there with an IV makes me want to cry. I know he will be fine, but as a first time mom, this is just a bit overwhelming. Maybe Milo wanted to have surgery since his dad did. Father like son?
If this post made you sad, here is my favorite new picture of Milo to cheer you up. You can only look at it if you promise to never tell him I posted it on the internet.
He looks like he's already getting so big! What a cutie. I'm jealous that Dan is getting to meet him this weekend. I'll see ya around Christmas.
